Ingredients

  • 2 medium eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup soft bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup tomato juice
  • 2 tablespoons parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano, dried
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 medium garlic clove, minced
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 8 slices boiled ham, thinly sliced
  • 6 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 3 slices mozzarella cheese

How To Make sicilian meat roll

  • Step 1
    Combine eggs, crumbs, juice, parsley, oregano, salt, pepper and garlic.
  • Step 2
    Add beef and mix well.
  • Step 3
    On waxed paper or foil, pat meat into a 12x10 rectangle.
  • Step 4
    Arrange ham slices atop meat leaving a small margin around the edges.
  • Step 5
    Sprinkle shredded cheese over the ham.
  • Step 6
    Starting from narrow end of the rectangle, roll up the meat using the paper (or foil) to lift.
  • Step 7
    Seal edges and ends.
  • Step 8
    Place roll seam side down on a 13x9x2in baking pan.
  • Step 9
    Bake at 350 for one hour and fifteen minutes or until done.
  • Step 10
    Note: Center of roll will be pink due to colouration from ham slices.
  • Step 11
    Cut three slices of mozeralla cheese diagonally and place them on top of the roll.
  • Step 12
    Return to oven until cheese melts, approx 5 minutes.
  • Step 13
    Also delicious served cold or in sandwich breads.
