This recipe is from The Pampered Chef. I have made a few small changes, such as using garlic powder instead of a fresh garlic clove and dried parsley rather than fresh snipped parsley. Feel free to use fresh ingredients--I just try to save time! Also, you can use whatever ingredients you want for inside the twist. We usually use pepperoni and black olives, but feel free to mix it up with your favorites, just as you would on an actual pizza.

My family requests this ALL the time. It is meant as an appetizer, however, we eat it as a meal.

Ingredients

1 pkg
(3.5 oz.) pepperoni slices
1 can(s)
(3.25 ounces) pitted ripe olives, drained
2 tsp
dried parsley
1/2 c
mozzarella cheese
2 Tbsp
all-purpose flour
1/8 tsp
garlic powder
2 pkg
(11 oz. each) refrigerated french bread dough
1
egg
1 tsp
dried italian seasoning mix
2 Tbsp
grated parmesan cheese
1 can(s)
(15 oz.) pizza sauce, warmed (optional)

How to Make Pizza Twist

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat the oven to 350 F
  • 2Dice the pepperoni.
  • 3Chop the olives.
  • 4Combine the pepperoni, olives, parsley, mozzarella cheese, flour, and garlic powder.
  • 5Mix well.
  • 6Place bread dough, seam sides up, on cutting board.
  • 7Spread the loaves open flat.
  • 8Roll dough crosswise to create a well down the center of each loaf.
  • 9Spoon half of the pepperoni mixture down the center of each loaf.
  • 10Gather up edges over filling and pinch firmly to seal.
  • 11Place the loaves in an “X” pattern on a rectangle stone or cookie sheet.
  • 12Crisscross the ends of the dough to form a large “figure-8.”
  • 13Separate the egg and discard the yolk (or set aside for another use).
  • 14Beat the egg white and Italian seasoning mix.
  • 15Lightly brush the egg white mixture over the dough with a pastry brush.
  • 16Cut a small slit in each of the top sections of the twist to reveal the filling.
  • 17Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the loaf.
  • 18Bake 30-32 minutes or until deep golden brown.
  • 19Let cool for ten minutes.
  • 20Cut into slices and serve with warm pizza sauce (if desired).
