I love these burgers with sliced black olives. They're also excellent with sauteed onions, peppers & mushrooms.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces italian sausage (your choice of hot, mild or sweet, about 2 links)
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds, crushed
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional; i don't use it)
  • 6 slices mozzarella cheese (fresh is best)
  • 3/4 cup marinara sauce (your favorite brand)
  • 6 - toasted hamburger buns or italian bread rolls

How To Make italian meatball burgers

  • Step 1
Prepare your outdoor grill or countertop grill.
  • Step 2
Remove the casings from the sausage. Combine sausage, ground beef & species in a bowl. Form into 6 equal patties.
  • Step 3
Place patties on outdoor grill rack coated with cooking spray & grill for 5 minutes. Turn & grill for 2-3 more minutes. Place a slice of mozzarella on each patty & grill 4-5 more minutes or until a meat thermometer inserted in the middle of the burgers registers 165 degrees. Remove from the grill; let stand about 5 minutes. Place one patty on the bottom half of each bun; top with marinara sauce & the top of the bun.
  • Step 4
NOTE: If you prepare these burgers using a countertop grill, your cooking time will be shortened because countertop grills cook from both sides. Check interior temperature after about 5 minutes. Top with mozzarella when appropriate; cover loosely with aluminum foil to allow cheese to melt.
