carrots, grated

celery, finely chopped

mushrooms, finely chopped

finely chopped parsley

lean ground beef/hamburger
2 Tbsp
2 Tbsp
tomato puree
1 c
red wine
3.5 c
beef broth
salt to taste
pepper to taste
oregano to taste
garlic to taste

How to Make Italian Meat Sauce


  • 1Combine butter and oil in large frypan and heat.
  • 2Add onions and saute' for one minute.
  • 3Add carrots, celery, mushrooms and parsley; cook, stirring frequently for 5 minutes.
  • 4Crumble in ground beef and cook, stirring frequently until lightly browned.
  • 5Sprinkle flour over the ground beef and stir until well blended.
  • 6Stir in puree.
  • 7Add wine gradually, stirring constantly.
  • 8Add the broth and season with spices as desired.
  • 9Simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 1 hour or until thickened.
  • 10Serve with pasta.
  • 11Each serving is about 1 cup of sauce.
