Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1.5 cups onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup carrots, grated
  • 1/2 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 2.5 cups mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped parsley
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef/hamburger
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons tomato puree
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 3.5 cups beef broth
  • - salt to taste
  • - pepper to taste
  • - oregano to taste
  • - garlic to taste

How To Make italian meat sauce

  • Step 1
    Combine butter and oil in large frypan and heat.
  • Step 2
    Add onions and saute\' for one minute.
  • Step 3
    Add carrots, celery, mushrooms and parsley; cook, stirring frequently for 5 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Crumble in ground beef and cook, stirring frequently until lightly browned.
  • Step 5
    Sprinkle flour over the ground beef and stir until well blended.
  • Step 6
    Stir in puree.
  • Step 7
    Add wine gradually, stirring constantly.
  • Step 8
    Add the broth and season with spices as desired.
  • Step 9
    Simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 1 hour or until thickened.
  • Step 10
    Serve with pasta.
  • Step 11
    Each serving is about 1 cup of sauce.
