Every time I bring this to a covered-dish gathering, everyone raves about it. My grandmother, Sarah, created this.

Blue Ribbon Recipe

Green bean casserole is a must on any holiday table, but this version is different than the one on the soup can. It's a pleasantly delicious spin on a classic recipe. There's no canned soup in this recipe, so it's not creamy like a traditional casserole. We liked the savory flavor from the artichokes and the crunchiness of the bread crumbs on top. If you're looking for a new holiday side dish, give this a try.

How To Make italian green bean casserole

Test Kitchen Tips
We sprinkled a little extra cheese and bread crumbs over the top of the casserole before baking.
  • Cans of green beans poured into a baking dish.
    Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Dump green beans (cut or french style) into a 9X13 inch pan.
  • Chopped artichokes added to green beans.
    Step 2
Finely chop the artichoke hearts (I use quartered) and add to the green beans.
  • Bread crumbs sprinkled over vegetables.
    Step 3
Sprinkle the bread crumbs over the vegetables.
  • Cheese, garlic powder, and salt sprinkled on top.
    Step 4
Add the cheese, garlic powder, and salt.
  • Oil added and ingredients mixed together.
    Step 5
Pour the oil all over and mix thoroughly. Taste to see if you need to add more cheese, garlic powder or salt. If it looks too dry, add a little more oil. If it's too wet, add more bread crumbs. I don't use a recipe so you can adjust it to your taste.
  • Green bean casserole baking in the oven.
    Step 6
Bake for 25 minutes, until golden brown. This is delicious either hot or at room temperature.
