tourtiere pie
(1 RATING)
This is a holiday tradition in my house and the ultimate in French comfort food. Each year I make these for Christmas Eve. After church services we come home and enjoy this pie and watch It's a Wonderful Life. They freeze well (unbaked).

Ingredients
- THE CRUST
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup cold butter
- 4-5 tablespoons cold water
- THE FILING
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 jar pork gravy
- 3 large russet potatoes, peeled, boiled and mashed (do not add any liquid to potatoes)
How To Make tourtiere pie
-
Step 1Place beef, pork and onion into fairly large pot. Cover and simmer for 1 hour. Remove meat mixture from heat, drain any liquid and mix in mashed potatoes, salt, cinnamon and cloves. Mound filling into prepared pie crust, cover with second crust, seal around the edges and flute the top crust. Brush crust with milk. Bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour. Serve with gravy (or in my house….ketchup!) These pies are great to make in advance and freeze (do not bake prior to freezing).
