Ingredients

  • 2 pounds fresh shrimp,peeled and deveined,then chop in half
  • 1 large onion,chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic,chopped
  • 1/4 medium bell pepper,chopped
  • salt - to taste
  • pepper - to taste
  • 2 - bay leaves
  • 4-5 cups water
  • oil - enough to make a roux,about a 1/2 inch on a deep dutch oven
  • 2-3 tablespoons flour
  • 6 cups cooked rice

How To Make shrimp stew

  • Step 1
    take your oil,and place in a very deep dutch oven ,or a skillet,and have a big pot also,a deep one to put your stew into.add the flour into the oil,and stir constantly,until the flour has a deep brown color,right before it gets to this point,add your onion,bell pepper,garlic to this,and cook that 5 minutes,take off heat.add salt and pepper.then place your roux and vegetable mixture,into the deep pot.add your water a little at a time,and stir to blend this quickly,i use a wisk.add your bay leaves,bring to boil,turn down,and let simmer 1/2 hour.add shrimp,cook 3/4 hour more.then serve over rice.
