I always have bags of French or continental lentil's in my pantry. they are useful for those cold winter's day in "Gods Own". This Greek lentil soup, known as "fakes" a comforting dish.It was first served to me by my girl friend in Greece in the new millennium and it has become a firm favourite. Ingredients

  • 375 grams french style lentils
  • 1 large white onion
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 2 - bay leaves, dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano, dried
  • - salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup olive oil, extra virgin
  • 1 cup fresh pureed tomatoes
  • GARNISH
  • - viniger
  • - olives
  • - feta cheese
  • - fresh crispy bread

How To Make greek lentil soup(fakes)

  • Step 1
    Bring lentils to a boil in about 1.5 litres of water. Add next four ingredients and cover. Simmer until lentils are tender (apx 35-45 minutes) Watch your consistency, adding water if it starts getting too thick. Season to suit your palate.
  • Step 2
    Once lentils are tender, add the tomatoes and oil and lightly simmer for an additional five mins. Remove from heat and fish out your onion, bay leaves and garlic. Great served hot or cold.
