Each week I make at least one loaf of homemade bread. I use this loaf to accompany dinner each night during the week~or until it runs out. If any is left over by the next weekend, I make croutons out of it. This loaf has a crusty top and a soft inside.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/8 cups water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast

How To Make french countryside bread (bread machine recipe)

  • Step 1
    Measure and add liquid ingredients to the bread pan.
  • Step 2
    Measure and add dry ingredients (except yeast) to the bread pan.
  • Step 3
    Use your finger to form a well (hole) in the flour where you will pour the yeast. Yeast must NEVER come into contact with a liquid when you are adding ingredients. Measure teh yeast and carefully pour it into the well.
  • Step 4
    Snap the baking pan into the breadmaker and close the lid.
  • Step 5
    Press "select" button to choose the French setting.
  • Step 6
    Choose your crust color and press "start".
