1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 pound large peeled and deveined raw shrimp

How to Make Southern Fried Shrimp


  • 1In a soup pot, heat oil over medium heat until hot. Meanwhile, in a shallow bowl combine all the ingredients except the shrimp, mix well until smooth. Dip the shrimp into the batter coating evenly, then drop into hot oil. Fry 2 to 4 minutes or until golden brown, turning once.
