bunsteads, a.k.a. hot tuna melts
(2 RATINGS)
An old recipe, from an old friend, Jayne ... these are very filling and cheesy-gooey. Great with a side-salad for a Saturday night, sit-in-front-of-the-TV-type meal!

Ingredients
- 1/4 pound velveeta cheese, cut into tiny cubes
- 3 - hard boiled eggs, chopped
- 5 1/2 ounces can of tuna
- 2 tablespoons chopped bell pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped green olives
- 2 tablespoons chopped bread and butter pickle
- 2 tablespoons finely diced onion
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 6 - hot dog buns, white or wheat
How To Make bunsteads, a.k.a. hot tuna melts
-
Step 1Preheat oven to 250° while mixing the filling.
-
Step 2Combine all ingreds [except hot dog buns!] in a bowl. Mix lightly.
-
Step 3Split buns, and fill them with the tuna mixture.
-
Step 4If you buy your hot dog buns in a box, return the filled buns to the box in which they came. OR, wrap each filled bun in aluminum foil. Wrap kind of loosely, so the filling doesn't stick to the foil. You can wrap them all in one huge piece of foil, if that's the way you prefer to do it.
-
Step 5Place boxed or foil-wrapped buns in the oven at 250°. Cook for about 30 minutes, until filling is hot, and the cheese is bubbly and melted. Serve right away, while hot.
