A few years ago we lived in the country and we had a large vegetable garden and the first to flourish was the asparagus and I had fun making meals using the asparagus and this is one I made quite often.

Ingredients
- 12 - spears asparagus
- 1 can 6 ounce crab meat drained or 1 cup flaked imitation crab meat.
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 6 .. tablespoons butter..divided
- 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 cup soft bread crumbs
- - salt and pepper to taste
How To Make asparagus crab au gratin

Step 1Wash and break off the hard end of the asparagus and place it in a greased 1-qt baking dish. set aside, top with crab and sprinkle with cheese. set aside.,

Step 2In a saucepan melt 3 tablespoons butter stir in the flour, whisk it together until smooth add the milk and mustard and cook on medium heat stirring for 2 to 3 minutes until thickened.

Step 3Remove from heat stir in the lemon juice, pour over asparagus..melt the remaining butter toss with bread crumbs and sprinkle over the asparagus and Bake uncovered in 350F oven for 30 minutes.
