the ultimate pan-fried chicken or pork sandwich

Believe it or not, I came up with the idea for this sandwich while watching an insurance commercial. This dude was eating this great-looking sandwich, and I paused it, and back played it several time, until I figured out what I wanted to do. Is it the same sandwich… probably not. But it looks pretty much the same. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • 2 slices bacon, thickly sliced
  • 1/4 cup flour, all purpose variety
  • - salt, kosher variety, to taste
  • - black pepper, freshly ground, to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • 1 medium chicken breast, boneless, skinless or boneless pork loin
  • 2 tablespoons sweet butter, unsalted, melted
  • 2 slices rustic bread, thickly sliced
  • 2 slices provolone cheese
  • 1/2 medium ripe avocado
  • - lettuce, i’m using frisée
  • 1/2 medium ripe tomato, sliced
  • - favorite sauce or dressing

How To Make the ultimate pan-fried chicken or pork sandwich

  • Step 1
    PREP/PREPARE
  • Step 2
    Gather your ingredients (oops forgot the image… my bad).
  • Step 3
    Cook the bacon in a sauté pan over medium heat until crispy.
  • Step 4
    Remove the bacon and reserve.
  • Step 5
    Add the flour, salt, pepper, cumin, cayenne, and paprika to a small bowl.
  • Step 6
    Add the chicken or pork to the mixture, and thoroughly coat.
  • Step 7
    Place the chicken or pork in the pan with the bacon grease, and cook over medium heat until browned and toasty, about 5 minutes per side.
  • Step 8
    Chef's Note: Remove from the pan, and slice into thick pieces.
  • Step 9
    Brush the melted butter on both sides of the bread and toast in the same pan that you used to cook the bacon, and the chicken.
  • Step 10
    THE ASSEMBLY
  • Step 11
    Spread a generous amount of your favorite sauce to one side of each piece of the toasted bread.

    Place the cooked chicken, or pork on one slice of the bread.
  • Step 14
    Add the provolone cheese.
  • Step 15
    Pop under the broiler until the cheese melts over the chicken, or pork and the bread.
  • Step 16
    Add the lettuce.
  • Step 17
    Add the tomatoes.
  • Step 18
    Add the avocado.
  • Step 19
    Add the bacon.
  • Step 20
    Top with other slice of toasted bread, and cut in half.
  • Step 21
    PLATE/PRESENT
  • Step 22
    Serve with some chips, or fries, and beverage of choice. Enjoy.
