My mother-in-law introduced this recipe to us. We love it! Next time I think I'll try with fresh finely chopped ginger.

Ingredients

  • 8
    chicken tenderloins or 4 chicken breasts
  • 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/3 c
    salad oil or shortening
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 can(s)
    sliced pineapple, drain & save syrup
  • 2 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 3/4 c
    cide vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp
    ginger
  • 1 Tbsp
    soy sauce
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    soy sauce
  • 1
    chicken bouilion cube
  • 1
    bell pepper, sliced

How to Make Sweet-Sour Chicken

Step-by-Step

  1. Coat chicken with flour. Brown in hot oil. Arrange skin side up in shallow roasting pan. Sprinkle with salt & pepper.
  2. Prepare sauce. Add water to pineapple syrup to make 1 1/4 cup. Combine syrup, sugar, constarch, vinegar, soy sauce, ginger & bouillion cube
  3. Bring to boil, stirring constantly 2 minutes. Pour over chicken. Bake uncovered, 30 min. Add pineapple and 1 bell pepper, sliced. Bake 30 min longer.
