I found this recipe a long time ago and I love it! This can be cooked in the oven or the crockpot (if you don't want to heat up the house like me!).

prep time 20 Min
cook time 5 Hr
method Bake
yield 6-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon salt (i use kosher)
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (not onion salt)
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (not garlic salt)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large roasting chicken (3-4 pounds)
  • 1 cup chopped onion (i just use 1 onion)

How To Make sticky chicken

  • Step 1
In a small bowl combine all the spices thoroughly. Remove giblets from the chicken, clean the cavity well and pat dry. Rub the spice mixture into the chicken inside and out, making sure its evenly distributed. Place in a ziploc bag and refrigerate over night.
  • Step 2
When ready to roast the chicken stuff the cavity with the onions and place in a shallow baking pan. Roast uncovered at 250 for 5 hours. after the first hour, baste the chicken occasionally with the pan juices. The pan juice will start to caramelize on the bottom of the pan and the chicken will turn a golden brown. Let the chicken rest about 10 minutes before carving.
  • Step 3
If you want to use a slow cooker set it to low and cook all day. You can start it in the morning before you go to work and it'll be ready when you get home. Baste it a few times before you take it out of the crock pot. *TIP: Don't try this on a chicken without the skin. It comes out DRY, DRY, DRY! If you like skinless chicken remove the skin after cooking! (I do!) The end result is so much better!
