Ingredients

  • 8
    chicken, legs or thighs
  • 2
    eggs
  • 4 c
    buttermilk
  • 3 c
    self- rising flour with salt & pepper to taste
  • 8 oz
    vegetable oil (or oil of your choice)

How to Make Southern Fried Chicken

Step-by-Step

  1. Wash chicken and set aside on paper towels
  2. In a large bowl beat eggs
  3. Pour buttermilk into a 9x13 baking dish; add beaten eggs and mix together.
  4. Put chicken into buttermilk mixture.
  5. Marinate chicken 2 hours, or over night if you prefer.
  6. Roll each chicken piece in the flour. Place chicken into hot oil in a deep skillet without crowding.

    Fry 7 to 8 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Chicken can be baked in a 350 oven in a heavy skillet, using 1/2 inch or less oil, for 15 minutes each side.
