Ingredients

  • 8 - chicken, legs or thighs
  • 2 - eggs
  • 4 cups buttermilk
  • 3 cups self- rising flour with salt & pepper to taste
  • 8 ounces vegetable oil (or oil of your choice)

How To Make southern fried chicken

  • Step 1
    Wash chicken and set aside on paper towels
  • Step 2
    In a large bowl beat eggs
  • Step 3
    Pour buttermilk into a 9x13 baking dish; add beaten eggs and mix together.
  • Step 4
    Put chicken into buttermilk mixture.
  • Step 5
    Marinate chicken 2 hours, or over night if you prefer.
  • Step 6
    Roll each chicken piece in the flour. Place chicken into hot oil in a deep skillet without crowding. Fry 7 to 8 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Step 7
    Chicken can be baked in a 350 oven in a heavy skillet, using 1/2 inch or less oil, for 15 minutes each side.
