I like to use Japanese rice seasoning called furikake pronounced (furry cocky) Gives the rice a great flavor and amps up the chicken dish. Shoyu chicken is a main staple in Hawaii and is the Japanese version of soy sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    soy sauce
  • 1 c
    dark brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    rice vinegar
  • 1 c
    water
  • 8 clove
    garlic minced
  • 1 medium
    onion diced
  • 2 Tbsp
    fresh ginger grated
  • 1 Tbsp
    black pepper
  • 1 tsp
    each paprika and red pepper flakes
  • 6
    boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • ·
    fresh cilantro for garnish
  • ·
    seasoned rice for serving

How to Make Shoyu Chicken

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix all the ingredients up to the chicken together until well blended. Add the chicken pieces and let marinate 1 to 2 hours.
  2. Grill or fry until done. Serve over seasoned rice and garnish with cilantro.
