My friend shared her mom's recipe with a group of us. Her mom made it for larger potluck style gatherings, I think.

method Slow Cooker Crock Pot

Ingredients For randa's mom's shredded chicken

  • 4-8
    chicken breasts
  • 1 stick
    butter
  • 1
    onion soup mix
  • 1. (16oz) can
beer (use something basic cuz it will affect the flavor)

How To Make randa's mom's shredded chicken

  • 1
Layer chicken breasts in bottom of a crockpot.
  • 2
Sprinkle with the dry onion soup mix.
  • 3
Cut up the butter and place on top of chicken.
  • 4
    Pour beer over the chicken.
  • 5
Cover and cook on high for 3 hours, low for 5 hours.
  • 6
The times are very approximate. Keep an eye on the chicken. (In the above photo I had just 4 chicken breasts. They were fully cooked in 3 hours. I would think if they were layered, with a total of 6 or 8 breasts, it might take longer.)
  • 7
After they are cooked, shred the chicken with forks, then stir in the juice in the crockpot.
  • 8
Serve on buns, or over rice or potatoes or noodles, or just eat! (Some people in the family like to add a piece of cheese on the meat before eating. Others like it with dill pickles. I like it plain!)
