This is my slightly altered version of the famous barbecue sauce created at Cornell University's Farm Home Extension in the 1950's.

This is a very popular recipe and variations of it are used all over New York State.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    vegetable oil
  • 1 c
    apple cider vinegar
  • 5 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    fresh ground pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp
    herbes de provence
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp
    red pepper flakes
  • 1
    egg
  • 5 - 8
    pieces of chicken, cut up

How to Make New York Style BBQ Chicken

Step-by-Step

  1. Note: This works with any type of chicken you wish to use: bone-in, skin on breast, legs, thighs, or skinless and boneless as well.
  2. Mix all ingredients well. Add chicken pieces your choice and marinate for at least 3 hours or overnight. Grill slowly and baste while cooking.
