Ingredients For lisa's homemade chicken dumplings

  • 6
    chicken breasts, skinless, boneless, and diced
  • water
  • 1 stick
    butter or margarine
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • dumplings:
  • 2 1/4 c
    self-rising flour
  • 1/4 c
    crisco shortening
  • 1 3/4 c
    buttermilk or milk

How To Make lisa's homemade chicken dumplings

    Wash the chickens and put the chickens in a large pot. Add water, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil and reduce to medium heat and add butter in chicken until tender. Take chickens out of the pot and let it cool and cut the chicken into cubes. Set aside. Make a dough. Add shortening and milk. Mix with your fingertips until well blended. Put the dough on a floured waxpaper. Knead the dough about 2 to 3 times. Roll with rolling pin and make 1/8-inch and cut into squares. Put the dough squares in the chicken broth and put the chicken pieces back in the pot. Cook for 15 minutes.
