These are so yummy you just wouldn't know they were canned. The gravy the dumplings make is awesome too. I'm getting hungry for them writing this recipe. I will post a picture as soon as I find the ones I took last time I made them. You have to use the right canned biscuits to get the good gravy, otherwise it takes a while to make its' own.

How to Make Easy Chicken and Dumplings

  1. I start by putting my chicken broth in a large pot, 8 qt minimum, set in to a medium high heat.
  2. After washing, rinsing and drying my chicken breast, I place them on a cutting board and cut into bite size cubes or chunks. Then add them to my heating chicken stock. Cook until the chicken is done. Usually the meat is through cooking in about 15 to 20 minutes depending on the size of your chunks.
  3. While the chicken is boiling I open the cans of biscuits and stack 5 biscuits in a pile and cut it into quarters or sixths. I cut the first 4 cans up.
  4. Once the meat is cooked, I add the milk. Then I turn the heat up to almost high to get a rolling boil going and add the pieces of biscuits. I put 1/3 the them in and then stir everything up to make sure the dumplings have been coated with the chicken stock. I add the next 1/3 of the biscuits and stir them up again, then finish up with the last of those 4 cans. I stir everything up, sprinkle the dumplings with pepper, partially cover with a lid so the steam can get out and not boil onto the stove top.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium to medium high, I check them in about 5 minutes, stirring and making sure the broth is turning into a nice gravy and continue cooking 5 more minutes. If the dumplings have cooked down so that there is room to add 1 more or both additional cans of biscuits, I do so at this time. You have to stir a little more often to keep the dumplings from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Once all of the dumplings are done, serve.
  6. Note #1: Sometimes everyone isn't going to be home at the same time and I will put everything into a slow cooker after it is done, turn it to low and leave it so the rest of the family can help themselves when they get home.
  7. Note #2: If you are really in a hurry, you can use canned chicken breast or chicken that you have boiled and frozen, even planned leftover baked chicken or grilled chicken breast.
