Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup plum sauce or sweet and sour sauce
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame seeds
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 3/4 teaspoon oriental chili sauce or bottled hot sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon 5-spice powder
  • 2 1/2 - 3 pounds chicken, cut into serving pieces

How To Make chicken with asian-style bbq sauce

  • Step 1
    For the sauce: Combine all ingredients (except chicken) in a small saucepan over medium heat until bubbly - stir frequently. Reduce heat and cover - simmer another 5 minutes and then set aside.
  • Step 2
    Remove skin from chicken, if preferred. Place chicken, meat side down, on grill over medium heat. Grill for 20 minutes. Turn chicken and grill for 20-30 minutes more or until 170 degrees (breasts) and 180 (thighs). Remove some sauce for basting and baste chicken during the last 10 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Transfer chicken to a serving platter. Heat remaining sauce and serve on the side.
