My mom made this recipe up over 50 years ago, and our family has loved it ever since. Hope your family will enjoy it too! Used to just call it "sloppy chicken" cause it can be sloppy to eat, but a dear friend said that name was not nearly as appetising as the dish really is, and it deserved to be named after my Mom.....Viola, Chicken Bernie! Try it, I believe you will like it!

Ingredients

  • 1
    chicken, cut into serving pieces
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 3/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 1/2
    onion, chopped (optional)
  • 1/2
    cube butter, sliced into patties
  • ·
    milk to cover

How to Make Chicken Bernie

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix flour, salt and pepper in large zip top bag.
  2. Rinse chicken pieces, and drop into flour mixture.
  3. shake, to coat chicken well.
  4. Place into 9 x 13 baking dish (sprayed with Pam).
  5. Pour over mixture, enough milk to barely cover chicken pieces.
  6. Dot over all with butter slices.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees till juices run clear.
  8. Will make it's own gravy. Will look curdled, but is VERY good.
