These chicken and waffles were a hit in the kitchen! Soaking the chicken in the buttermilk makes the chicken tender. Paprika and garlic seasoning in the batter is the perfect contrast to the sweet syrup. The waffles fluff up perfectly and are crisp on the outside but soft inside. We really loved the cinnamon butter. It's something different and a nice touch. This is hearty enough to have any time of day... breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner! Ingredients

  • INGREDIENTS FOR WAFFLE BATTER
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 1/4 - egg
  • 3/4 cup milk, room temperature
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • INGREDIENTS FOR CHICKEN
  • 1 - 4 chicken tenders or 1 large chicken breast sliced into 4 strips
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper
  • 1/2 cup oil for frying
  • INGREDIENTS FOR (DRY) BATTER
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • YOU WILL ALSO NEED 1 ZIPLOC BAG OR ANY CLEAN PLASTIC BAG AVAILABLE
  • WHIPPED BUTTER
  • 6 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • SYRUP FOR DRIZZLING WHEN SERVED

How To Make chicken and waffles

  • Soaking chicken in the buttermilk marinade.
    Step 1
    In a clean bowl, add buttermilk, chicken strips, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix, cover, and refrigerate for up to 3 hours or overnight.
  • Butter, cinnamon, and vanilla extract in a small bowl.
    Step 2
    Cinnamon Vanilla Butter: Add ingredients to a small bowl.
  • Cinnamon butter ingredients mixed together.
    Step 3
    Whip with fork until well incorporated.
  • Dry ingredients for waffle batter in a bowl.
    Step 4
    Waffle batter: Mix all dry ingredients.
  • Wet and dry waffle ingredients combined.
    Step 5
    Add wet ingredients and mix until well incorporated but do not over mix; a few lumps are OK. Set batter aside.
  • Seasoning and flour added to a resealable bag.
    Step 6
    When you are ready to fry the chicken, add the flour, paprika, garlic powder, and salt and pepper into plastic bag. Mix.
  • Coating the chicken in flour.
    Step 7
    With the help of a fork, drop chicken strips into the bag. Close and mix well until chicken is evenly covered with the flour.
  • Heating up the oil for frying.
    Step 8
    Heat frying oil over medium heat.
  • Frying the chicken tenders.
    Step 9
    Carefully place each strip into the hot oil and fry on each side until chicken is cooked and outside is golden brown.
  • Removing excess oil from the chicken tenders.
    Step 10
    Once chicken is thoroughly cooked, remove from oil and place on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • Waffle batter poured into the waffle maker.
    Step 11
    While the chicken is cooling, make the waffles. Warm up waffle maker to the preferred setting. Remember to spray the waffle maker with oil or butter before pouring batter to avoid waffle from sticking.
  • Waffle cooked until golden brown.
    Step 12
    Cook waffle until golden brown.
  • Chicken tenders on a waffle with cinnamon butter.
    Step 13
    To serve, place the waffle on a plate. Add two chicken strips. Top with a dollop of butter and a drizzle of syrup. Enjoy!
