Ingredients
- 1 chicken, cooked and deboned (save broth)
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 - 1 cups ice water
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- salt & pepper, to taste
How To Make chicken and dumplings

Step 1Blend flour, salt and shortening until mixture resembles corn meal. Slowly add ice water until it makes a dough.

Step 2Roll dough thinly on a floured surface and cut into strips.

Step 3In a Dutch oven, add the broth and milk. Add the butter. Salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a slow boil, then lower heat and simmer.

Step 4Add one strip at a time to the simmering liquid. DO NOT STIR! Simply push the strip down into the liquid with a spoon.

Step 5Cook for 15 minutes, then carefully and gently add the meat.
