This recipe is adapted from a very old Weight Watchers recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons shortening or cooking oil
  • ¼ cup onion, chopped
  • ¼ cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • ¼ cup celery, chopped
  • ¼ cup sliced fresh mushrooms
  • - dash each salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1½ cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons pimento, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh or 1 tsp. dried parsley

How To Make chicken a la king

  • Step 1
    In large skillet, melt shortening and saute onion, pepper, celery and mushrooms until tender. Remove from pan.
  • Step 2
    Melt butter in pan and add flour to make a paste; gradually add milk and cook, stirring constantly until mixture thickens. Add salt and pepper.
  • Step 3
    Add chicken, sauteed vegetables, pimento, and parsley. Reduce heat and heat through. Serve over rice.
