Ingredients

  • 2 jars sauerkraut, undrained
  • 2 pounds bratwurst, cut into 1/2
  • 1 1/2 cups red potatoes, coarsely chopped
  • 1 large onion, cut into thin wedges
  • 2 - 14 oz. cans chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup mustard, spicy brown
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt & pepper
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed
  • 4 - 6 cups swiss cheese, shredded

How To Make bratwurst stew

  • Step 1
In a 5 - 6 qt slow cooker, combine sauerkraut, bratwurst, potatoes (bottom) & onion. In a large bowl, whisk together broth, mustard, vinegar, salt, black pepper & celery seed. Pour over all in cooker. NOTE: If you don't put the potatoes on the bottom of the crock pot - they will not cook totally through. I found that out the hard way (literally).
  • Step 2
Cover & cook on low heat setting for 6 - 7 hours or on high-heat setting for 3 - 3 1/2 hours. If desired, top each serving with cheese.
