  • 2 jar(s)
    sauerkraut, undrained
  • 2 lb
    bratwurst, cut into 1/2
  • 1 1/2 c
    red potatoes, coarsely chopped
  • 1 large
    onion, cut into thin wedges
  • 2 - 14 oz. can(s)
    chicken broth
  • 1/4 c
    mustard, spicy brown
  • 1/4 c
    apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp
    salt & pepper
  • 1 tsp
    celery seed
  • 4 - 6 c
    swiss cheese, shredded

How to Make Bratwurst Stew

  1. In a 5 - 6 qt slow cooker, combine sauerkraut, bratwurst, potatoes (bottom) & onion. In a large bowl, whisk together broth, mustard, vinegar, salt, black pepper & celery seed. Pour over all in cooker.

NOTE: If you don't put the potatoes on the bottom of the crock pot - they will not cook totally through. I found that out the hard way (literally).
  2. Cover & cook on low heat setting for 6 - 7 hours or on high-heat setting for 3 - 3 1/2 hours. If desired, top each serving with cheese.
