Here's another recipe from the same Amish cookbook that the carrot cake came from. 'Baked Chicken of my favorite dishes! This also makes a great barbecue sauce on its own.

*Variation: Omit onion. Add 1/2 tsp. paprika and 1/4 tsp. hickory smoke seasoning to sauce.

  • 2 3 lb
    whole chickens
  • 1 c
  • 1/4 c
  • 1/4 c
  • 1/4 c
  • 3 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp
    dry mustard
  • 1/4 tsp
  • 1 1/2 tsp
  • ·
    juice of 1/4 lemon
  • 1
    onion, diced* (see my notes)

How to Make Baked Chicken Barbecue


  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  2. In a saucepan combine all ingredients except chicken; bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Spoon sauce over chickens in a 9- X 13-inch baking dish; add 1/3 cup of water.
  4. Bake, uncovered, in the preheated oven for 2 hours, basting occasionally.
