Ingredients

  • NOODLES
  • 4 cups egg noodles
  • salt
  • 2 large good quality tuna in olive oil, drained and flaked (8 oz each)
  • 10 ounces frozen peas
  • 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 1/2 cups Irish cheddar cheese
  • SAUCE
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • salt
  • 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups chicken stock
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • TOPPING
  • 2 cups Panko bread crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons butter

How To Make tuna noodle casserole

  • Step 1
    Heat a pot of water to a boil. Generously add salt. Add the noodles and cook for about 15 minutes. Drain in a colander, then put the colander in a bowl of ice water to cool it.
  • Step 2
    Pour the cold noodles into a big bowl and add the tuna, peas, and cheeses. Mix well.
  • Step 3
    Spray a 9x15 pan with cooking spray and add the noodle mixture. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Proceed to make the sauce.

    Add butter to a saucepan. Add the onions and season with salt. Cook 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook 1 more minute.

    Add the mushrooms and season with salt. Cook until the mushrooms are browned.
  • Step 6
    Add the Worcestershire sauce and horseradish. Mix well. Sprinkle in the flour and cook for one minute.
  • Step 7
    Add the chicken stock and increase the heat, and stir until it starts to get thick. Pour in the heavy cream. Cook until thickened.
  • Step 8
    Mix the sauce into the noodle mixture. Prepare the topping by adding the butter to a saucepan. Add the Panko and brown in the butter.
  • Step 9
    Sprinkle the Panko over the top. Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
