It's Hamburger Helper with a New Orleans twist. I created this new beef casserole recipe inspired by New Orleans.

Ingredients For new orleans beef casserole

  • 6
    white mushrooms, sliced
  • 3 Tbsp
    Creole seasoning, divided
  • 16 oz
    dry elbow macaroni
  • 3 Tbsp
    fennel seeds
  • 1 lb
    lean ground beef
  • 1 md
    red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 md
    yellow bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 jar
    artichoke hearts, drained and sliced
  • 1 Tbsp
    steak seasoning
  • 2 Tbsp
    Creole mustard mixed with brown sugar
  • 3 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 c
    heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 c
    milk
  • 8 oz
    cream cheese, softened
  • 1
    packet dry onion soup mix
  • 8 oz
    Gouda cheese, shredded

How To Make new orleans beef casserole

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • 2
    Coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Add sliced white mushrooms. Season with 1 tablespoon Creole seasoning.

    Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain. Transfer to large bowl. Add 1 tablespoon creole seasoning and fennel seeds; mix well.

    Heat ground beef in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Add chopped red and yellow bell peppers and sliced artichoke hearts. Cook for 6 minutes until browned. Drain any excess fat.

    Stir with steak seasoning, Creole mustard/brown sugar and garlic powder. Remove from heat.

    Heat margarine in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Combine heavy cream, milk, cream cheese, onion soup mix and remaining Creole seasoning; stir well. Let it simmer for 4 minutes until well thickened.

    Add ground beef mixture and fennel seed/macaroni mixture; mix well. Remove from heat.

    Spoon into a prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Sprinkle with shredded Gouda cheese.

    Bake for 25 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Cool completely for 10 minutes.
