- 1 pound hamburger meat
- 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/3 cup chopped onion
- salt and ground black pepper, to taste
- 3 cups peeled and thinly sliced potatoes
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Step 2Lightly grease a 9×13-inch or 3 quart deep baking dish.

Step 3Brown the ground beef and onion together in a skillet; drain excess fat. Divide the cooked beef-onion mixture into 2 equal portions.

Step 4In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, 3/4 cup milk, and salt and ground black pepper to taste until smooth.

Step 5Layer from bottom to top like this: 1 1/2 cup sliced potatoes (1/2 of total) 1/2 of the beef-onion mixture 1/2 of the seasoned sauce 1 1/2 cup sliced potatoes 1/2 of the beef-onion mixture 1/2 of the seasoned sauce Last 1/2 of the beef-onion mixture and seasoned sauce spread so the top potatoes are fully covered with meat and sauce.

Step 6Cover tightly with foil and bake 1 to 1 1/2 hours, until potatoes are completely tender.

Step 7Remove foil, sprinkle the 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
