I created this macaroni and cheese recipe in the style of dirty rice. It's good with side salad and dinner rolls.

  • 16 ounces dry elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons steak seasoning, divided
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 banana peppers, chopped
  • 1 medium Vidalia sweet onion, peeled and diced
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey mustard
  • 1 tablespoon margarine
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 3/4 cup half and half
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups cubed processed American cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend

How To Make dirty macaroni and cheese

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 9x13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
  • Step 2
Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain. Transfer to a greased casserole dish. Season with 2 Tbsp steak seasoning.
  • Step 3
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir ground beef in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly for 7 minutes; drain and discard the grease.
  • Step 4
Reduced to low heat. Stir in chopped red bell and banana pepper, diced vidalia sweet onion, Worcestershire sauce, honey mustard, and remaining steak seasoning.
  • Step 5
Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Step 6
Heat margarine in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Combine heavy whipping cream, half and half, garlic powder, and cream cheese. Stir well and bring it to a boil for 5 minutes until thickened.
  • Step 7
Add ground beef mixture and cubed American cheese; mix well for 3 minutes until blended. Remove from heat.
  • Step 8
Pour over a prepared casserole dish with macaroni and spread evenly. Sprinkle with shredded Mexican cheese blend.
  • Step 9
Bake for 30 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Cool completely for 9 minutes.
