We like to use this basic recipe when we have a crowd over for a barbecue. It will make 8 child-sized and 4 adult-sized burgers.
Blue Ribbon Recipe
Skip buying frozen burgers for your next summer BBQ and make these cheddar burgers. They're easy to throw together. Thanks to barbecue sauce mixed into the ground beef, the juicy burgers have a bit of sweetness to them. On top of a toasted bun with your favorite fix-ins (we opted for bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and pickles), for a delicious grilled hamburger.
Mix together ground beef, barbecue sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Shape half of meat mixture into eight 1/2-inch-thick patties.
Shape the remaining meat mixture into four 1-inch-thick patties. (Can be made 8 hours ahead). Cover and chill.
Prepare grill (medium-high heat). Grill patties to desired doneness, about 4 minutes per side for medium-rare for 1/2-inch thick patties and about 6 minutes per side for medium-rare 1-inch thick patties.
Top with cheese the last minute of cooking.
Place burgers on the bottom halves of buns and top with lettuce and tomatoes and anything else that you like.
Cover with top bun.
