Ingredients

  • 3 pounds chuck roast
  • 3 - bay leaves
  • 5 - carrots
  • 2 - onions
  • 4 - potatoes
  • 2 cups water
  • - salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

How To Make yankee pot roast

  • Step 1
    Brown beef in hot skillet on both sides.
  • Step 2
    Turn burner down and add water and bay leaves.
  • Step 3
    Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Step 4
    Cover and simmer slowly for 3 - 4 hours or until beef is fork tender.
  • Step 5
    Peel vegetables and cut potato in half.
  • Step 6
    Add to pan, cover and simmer another 30 minutes or until carrots are tender.
  • Step 7
    Thicken pan juices for gravy.
