Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 1/3 cup chopped celery
  • 2 - minced garlic cloves
  • 14 slices french bread
  • 4 large tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 teaspoon parsley
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil, divided
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese

How To Make tomato-french bread lasagna

  • Step 1
    In a skillet, brown beef, onion, celery and garlic; drain and set aside.
  • Step 2
    Toast bread; line the bottom of an ungreased 13x9x2-inch baking dish with 10 slices.
  • Step 3
    Top with half of the meat mixture and half of the tomatoes.
  • Step 4
    Combine seasonings; sprinkle half over tomatoes.
  • Step 5
    Drizzle with 1 teaspoon oil.
  • Step 6
    Crumble remaining bread over top.
  • Step 7
    Repeat layers of meat, tomatoes and seasonings and oil.
  • Step 8
    In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter; stir in flour until smooth.
  • Step 9
    Gradually stir in milk; bring to boil.
  • Step 10
    Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly, about 2 minutes.
  • Step 11
    Remove from heat; stir in parmesan.
  • Step 12
    Pour over casserole.
  • Step 13
    Top with mozzarella.
  • Step 14
    Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until bubbly and cheese is golden brown.
