I'm not a bean person & most of my family doesn't like chili, but even my pickiest eater will eat a bowl of this. -- Most of this recipe is "to taste" instead of specific measurements. Please don't let it scare you...it's a very easy recipe.

prep time 30 Min
cook time 4 Hr
method Stove Top
yield 6 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 can kidney beans, canned
  • 1 can tomatoes, canned italian-style and diced
  • 2 cans water
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1 can water in tomato paste can
  • 1 pound 85/15 hamburger
  • 1 medium green pepper
  • 1 medium white onion
  • - chili powder
  • - paprika
  • - ceyanne pepper
  • - hot sauce
  • - garlic powder with parsley
  • - onion powder
  • - salt
  • - black pepper

How To Make the perfect chili

  • Step 1
In a large pot, mix beans, tomatoes, tomato paste, water & turn on simmer.
  • Step 2
In a separate pan, sautee' pepper & onions with salt until almost soft. Add in Hamburger to this mixture & brown together. Once browned, combine entire mixture to the bean pot. Add in the spices in smaller amounts until you arrive at the appropriate amount to suit your taste. Slowly simmer for approx 3-4 hours, stirring every 15-20 minutes.
  • Step 3
*** I have used mild salsa at times too instead of the pepper/onions. I improvise based on what foods I have at the house. & FYI I always use about 1/2 bottle of chili powder per batch so don't be afraid to use plenty until you get that true chili taste.
