Let me start out by saying I HATE, yes HATE sloppy joes.....HOWEVER....This recipe is absolutely awesome, and I've spent months tweaking the original base recipe to what it is today..... I promise you, you'll never use Manwhich again!!!

prep time 20 Min
cook time 1 Hr
method ---
yield 4 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup spicy bbq sauce
  • 3 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard
  • 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced green or red pepper (i use both)
  • 1 can rotell or tex mex brand tomatoes with chilies
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 3 teaspoons brown sugar

How To Make the best ever sloppy joes!!!

  • Step 1
Brown ground beef, drain MOST of the grease out, not all of it. Put in crock pot.
  • Step 2
Place onions, tomatoes, peppers, salt, pepper, garlic, mustard, and worcestershire sauce in crock pot. Mix well.
  • Step 3
Start putting ketchup and bbq sauce in crock pot, mix well...... *****NOTE***** Everyone's taste is different, so my suggestion is to do some taste testing as you're adding the ketchup, bbq sauce, and brown sugar, so that you get the proper mix for your personal palate. What's written above is how my family loves them, sweet and spicy.
  • Step 4
Set crock pot on high for 1 hour, or on low for 2-3 hours or more, til onions and peppers are cooked through but still somewhat crisp.
  • Step 5
Serve on toasted bread, enjoy!!! We save leftovers for lunch the next day, and serve it over white rice rather than on bread.
