My mom came across this recipe years ago and has been a favorite since..serve with aunt edna's cornbread.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb
    hamburger
  • 1 tsp
    oil
  • 3
    minced garlic cloves
  • 3
    stalks diced celery
  • 2
    large chopped onions
  • 1
    16 oz. can stewed tomatoes
  • 3
    8 oz. cans tomato sauce
  • 1 Tbsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 2
    bay leaves
  • 1 Tbsp
    plus 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tsp
    oregano, dried
  • 1 can(s)
    ( small can) diced or chopped green chilis
  • 1/4 tsp
    cumin
  • 6
    allspice, whole
  • 2 can(s)
    15 oz. cans pinto beans-undrained or (kidney beans)
  • 3 Tbsp
    sugar

How to Make TEXAS CHILI

Step-by-Step

  1. In large pot, brown meat-add garlic, celery, onions and saute 10 min. Add all of the other ingredients..simmer uncovered 1 1/2-2 hrs. Stir often. (Sounds like alot of sugar, etc. but that is the secret ingredient).
