My mom came across this recipe years ago and has been a favorite since..serve with aunt edna's cornbread.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds hamburger
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 3 - minced garlic cloves
  • 3 - stalks diced celery
  • 2 - large chopped onions
  • 1 - 16 oz. can stewed tomatoes
  • 3 - 8 oz. cans tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 - bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano, dried
  • 1 can ( small can) diced or chopped green chilis
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 6 - allspice, whole
  • 2 cans 15 oz. cans pinto beans-undrained or (kidney beans)
  • 3 tablespoons sugar

How To Make texas chili

  • Step 1
    In large pot, brown meat-add garlic, celery, onions and saute 10 min. Add all of the other ingredients..simmer uncovered 1 1/2-2 hrs. Stir often. (Sounds like alot of sugar, etc. but that is the secret ingredient).
