taverners or loose meat sandwiches
Ginger (my biological mother) said this was originally an Eastern Star recipe, adapted from a local restaurant in Iowa when she was a teenager.

Ingredients
- 1 pound ground chuck
- 1 small onion, fine chop
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 14 teaspoons chili powder
How To Make taverners or loose meat sandwiches
-
Step 1Mix all but meat and simmer 10 min to combine flavors. Add meat and cook uncovered 30 min, chopping to break up chunks as you cook. Simmer in crockpot, use slotted spoon to remove because it's really juicy. Sandwiches can be served with ketchup, mustard and a dill pickle if desired.

Step 2This recipe is a good starter for spaghetti sauce, taco or fajita meat, or anything else since it has little spices. Freeze in individual packages for that purpose if making a large batch.
