taco rice
(1 RATING)
This recipe came from necessity and a nearly empty pantry once over 15 yrs ago. Since then it has become a favorite of my 17 yr old son's. I have made this for large groups of people and my mom and dad. Everyone seems to love it!

Ingredients
- 1 box beef rice-a-roni (or store brand)
- 1 package taco seasoning mix
- 1 pound hamburger
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 to 2 cups crushed nacho cheese doritos
How To Make taco rice
-
Step 1Cook beef rice-a-roni per package directions.
-
Step 2In a separate skillet, brown the hamburger. Drain and rinse if desired.
-
Step 3Add taco seasoning to the browned, drained ground hamburger and simmer for about 5 minutes.
-
Step 4Combine finished rice-a-roni and taco meat together. (Don't try to just stir the hamburger meat, rice and seasoning all at the same time. It just doesn't taste right)
-
Step 5Place the mixture into a flat casserole dish and top with the shredded cheese then the crushed doritos.
-
Step 6Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted. Be careful to watch that the doritos don't burn.
-
Step 7Serve with sour cream and salsa for topping.
