Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1-1/2 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup raw rice
- 1 small onion, grated
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons salt, divided
- 3/4 teaspoon pepper, divided
- 1 large onion, sliced, into thin half moons
- 1 can 16 ( ounces tomato sauce)
- 2 cans 28 (ounces tomatoes with juice)
- 2 medium-large lemons-juice
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
How To Make sweet and sour stuffed cabbage

Step 1Boil a large pot of water. Cut the core out of the cabbage. Add the cabbage to boilng water. .Cook, covered for 10 minutes.

Step 2Once it is done, put the cabbage into a colander set in a bowl. Pour cool water over the cabbage.. When it is cool enough to handle, separate the leaves.

Step 3Shave off the thickest part of each leaf. Mix the rice, grated onion, eggs, 1 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. pepper in a medium bowl. Add the beef and mix all ingredients with hands.

Step 4Make small meatballs. Loosely wrap each meatball in a cabbage leaf.. Any leftover leaves arrange on the bottom of a casserole dish or roasting pan. Layer 1/2 of the onion slices. Make sauce by adding tomatoes and juice, then tomato sauce, lemon juice and remainng salt and pepper and brown sugar. Top with remaining onions. Put enough sauce to cover the bottom of the pan Place the stuffed rolls on the sauce, seam side down.

Step 5Ladle the rest of the sauce over the rolls. Cover the casserole with tin foil. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour and then uncovered for another 1 and 1/2 hours.
