sweet and sour meatballs

this recipe was first made for my open house...and family and friends have requested it ever since. In my opinion,boiling the meatballs removes a lot of the grease,and is a great alternative to baking or frying them. And the gingersnaps give the sauce a real kick.

Ingredients
- MEATBALLS
- 5 pounds ground chuck
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1 package dry onion soup mix
- 3/4 cup chopped onion,dehydrated
- 3/4 cup water
- SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE
- 1 can tomato paste,small
- 2 cans tomatoes,chopped
- 1 pound brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 10 - gingersnaps,crushed fine

Step 1FOR MEATBALLS: Heat large pot of water to boiling. Meanwhile combine all meatball ingredients. Roll into 1" balls. Drop balls about 20 at a time into boiling water. When they float to the top,boil for 1 minute.Remove and drain. replace back in pot or put in slow cooker.

Step 2FOR SAUCE: Mix together all ingredients except gingersnaps. cook half hour add gingersnaps. combine thoroughly. Add to meatballs either in slowcooker on low setting or in pot on stovetop on very low . stir occasionally. cook about 3 hours
