"sweet" and savory meatloaf

As a young wife I never made meatloaf, because as a kid I didn't like the onions that my mom would put in it. These days you need to spread your food costs to the max and I decided I needed to try my own twist on the "Meatloaf". So here is my rendition of what seems to be a favorite meal for many, and now me too.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or ground chuck
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 tablespoon onion soup mix
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon steak seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke flavoring
  • 1/4 teaspoon sage, dried
  • 1 teaspoon brown mustard
  • 1/2 cup crushed ritz crackers or panko
  • TOPPING
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg or allspice

How To Make "sweet" and savory meatloaf

  • Step 1
    Place ground beef in a bowl, add to the beef all of the ingredients (except topping ingredients) with cracker crumbs last. Mix together with your hands but don't over do it just make sure all of the spices and egg is mixed in well.
  • Step 2
    Form into a loaf and place on a baking sheet
  • Step 3
    Now mix up your topping, and spread it on top of the meatloaf. Preheat your oven for 350 degrees and bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reads 160. Take out and let rest for 5 minutes.
