As a young wife I never made meatloaf, because as a kid I didn't like the onions that my mom would put in it. These days you need to spread your food costs to the max and I decided I needed to try my own twist on the "Meatloaf". So here is my rendition of what seems to be a favorite meal for many, and now me too.

  • 1 lb
    ground beef or ground chuck
  • 1
  • 1 Tbsp
    onion soup mix
  • 1 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp
    steak seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp
    liquid smoke flavoring
  • 1/4 tsp
    sage, dried
  • 1 tsp
    brown mustard
  • 1/2 c
    crushed ritz crackers or panko

  • 1/4 c
  • 2 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp
    nutmeg or allspice

How to Make "Sweet" and Savory Meatloaf


  1. Place ground beef in a bowl, add to the beef all of the ingredients (except topping ingredients) with cracker crumbs last. Mix together with your hands but don't over do it just make sure all of the spices and egg is mixed in well.
  2. Form into a loaf and place on a baking sheet
  3. Now mix up your topping, and spread it on top of the meatloaf. Preheat your oven for 350 degrees and bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reads 160. Take out and let rest for 5 minutes.
