This recipe was used at church when I was a child for father-daughter or mother-son dinners. Each church circle would make part of the meal, and seems my mom always made the meatballs and gravy (along with several other circle members.) Everyone who made meatballs and gravy would bring theirs to the church and 'meld' all together into large roaster pans. Everyone followed the same recipe. Other circles / members would make the mashed potatoes vegetables and jello salads, other circles/members would make desserts. This was our oldest daughter's "first meal from the table" when she was a baby.
Mix all ingredients together with hands.
Roll into balls about walnut size.
Brown in 1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil or Lard. Remove from hot oil when browned.
Add to hot fat - 6 Tablespoons Flour, 6 Beef Bouillon cubes stir until flour and bouillon are mixed then ADD: approximately 5 Cups COLD water. Cook on high until smooth; stir occasionally. Turn down heat and add meatballs and simmer over LOW heat for 30 minutes or until ready to serve OR put meatballs in roaster pan and pour gravy over meatballs and place in oven @ 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes.
Serve with mashed potatoes, a vegetable, salad, and dinner roll. Complete your meal with a light dessert.
