stuffed cabbage rolls

Someone gave me this recipe and I tried it and let me tell you it was out of this world. If you like something different this will do it.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium cabbage head
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 pound ground chuck
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 can 10oz drained saurkraut
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 3 cups tomato juice

How To Make stuffed cabbage rolls

  • Step 1
    Remove 12 outer leaves and 6 small leaves. Cook leaves in boiling water 5-8 minutes until tender. Drain & set aside. Saute' onion in veg. oil, add rice & cook 3-5 min. stirring constantly. Cool rice mixture. Combine rice mixture, ground beef,salt & pepper. Spoon about 1/4 c. in center of large leaves fold left to right and roll up. You can chill overnight or prepare immediately. Put small leaves in bottom of stock pot. Spoon 1/2 ea. of kraut and brown sugar over the small leaves in the pot. I mixed both together and used half at a time. Top that with the rolled leaves with seam side down. Repeat with the kraut and brown sugar. Pour tomato juice over it. Bring to boil then turn down to medium. Cook for 2 hrs. Serve immediately.

    It sounds long and complicated but it really isn't and when you eat it yum.
