I used to make these all the time; I haven't for awhile now. One thing I can tell you is that these are worth making. We all love them.

This recipe uses Country Style Spareribs!

  • 3 lb
    country style spare ribs, 3 inch lengths
  • 1 medium
    onion, chopped fine
  • 2 Tbsp
    white vinegar or apple cider
  • 4 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 1/8 tsp
    cayenne pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 c
  • 3 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 Tbsp
    ground mustard
  • 1 c
  • 1 Tbsp
    celery salt
  • 1 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper (or to taste)

How to Make Steamed Barbecued Spareribs


  1. Brown ribs on both sides in a skillet. Place the browned ribs in a large saucepan that has a cover. Mix remaining ingredients together and pour over browned ribs. Cook on high heat until ribs start steaming then reduce heat to a simmer. Cook until ribs are tender about 1 1/2 hours.
  2. Keep ribs covered while simmering to keep liquid in.
