I was craving paprikash and just decided to throw this recipe together and was quite surprised that it was so good, considering how simple it is!

Ingredients For steak paprikash

  • 1 1/2 lb
    round steak or roast, cut into bite sized cubes
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter
  • 2 Tbsp
    canola oil
  • 1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 sm
    onion, finely diced
  • 2 tsp
    garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp
    sweet/mild paprika
  • 3 c
    water
  • 1 tsp
    salt or to taste
  • 2 Tbsp
    chopped fresh parsley + more for garnish if desired
  • 1 c
    sour cream
  • spaetzle or egg noodles, fully cooked

How To Make steak paprikash

    Heat butter and oil in deep skillet.

    Toss beef cubes in a bowl with 1/4 cup flour and add to pan. Add in onions and cook until meat is completely browned.

    Add in Paprika and garlic, saute for a few seconds until fragrant.

    Pour in water and stir until smooth and flour is incorporated (not lumpy.) Add salt and fresh parsley.

    Bring to a simmer and continue to simmer uncovered for another 40 minutes.

    Ladle out some of the sauce and mix with the 1 cup of sour cream until well combined.

    Remove pan from heat and stir in sour cream until well incorporated into the sauce.

    Ladle over buttered spaetzle or egg noodles.

    Garnish with more chopped parsley if desired.
