Ingredients

  • 1 lb
    sirloin steak
  • 3 Tbsp
    red wine vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp
    salad oil
  • 3
    garlic cloves
  • 6
    pita bread rounds
  • 1
    cucumber, peeled and grated
  • 8 oz
    yogurt, plain

How to Make Steak In Pitas (Mock Gyros)

Step-by-Step

  1. Place steak in ziploc freezer bag; combine red wine vinegar, worcestershire sauce, salad oil and crushed garlic cloves; add to meat.
  2. Freeze.
  3. To prepare: thaw steak in marinade.
  4. Prepare cucumber sauce.
  5. Barbecue or grill steak under oven broiler until medium rare.
  6. Slice steak against the grain in thin strips.
  7. Tear thin strip from edge of pita breads; open and stuff with steak and shredded lettuce; add cucumber sauce.
  8. Cucumber sauce: peel and grate cucumber; mix with yogurt and chill until ready to serve.
