Ingredients

  • 2 pounds round steak
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup water chestnuts
  • 1 cup beef bouillon
  • 2 - garlic cloves, mashed
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • - rice, cooked
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 3 large green bell peppers

How To Make steak & green peppers

  • Step 1
    Cut the steak into 1/2\" strips.
  • Step 2
    Combine the soy sauce, beef bouillon, mashed garlic and ginger.
  • Step 3
    Pour this marinade over the steak strips and cover.
  • Step 4
    Marinate, refrigerated, at least 2 hours (up to 12 hours).
  • Step 5
    Drain the meat and discard the garlic.
  • Step 6
    Reserve 1/2 cup of the marinade.
  • Step 7
    Dry the meat strips on toweling.
  • Step 8
    Brown the meat in the vegetable oil in a large skillet.
  • Step 9
    Heat the reserved marinade in a separate pan.
  • Step 10
    Add the reserved marinade and the boiling water to the meat and cover.
  • Step 11
    Simmer about 45 minutes.
  • Step 12
    Add the green bell pepper strips and the sliced water chestnuts.
  • Step 13
    Simmer until the meat is tender.
  • Step 14
    Mix the cornstarch in the second measure of water until smooth.
  • Step 15
    Gradually stir this mixture into the meat mixture.
  • Step 16
    Continue stirring until the gravy thickens.
  • Step 17
    Serve over boiled white rice.
