Ingredients

  • 2 lb
    round steak
  • 1/4 c
    soy sauce
  • 1 c
    water chestnuts
  • 1 c
    beef bouillon
  • 2
    garlic cloves, mashed
  • 3 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp
    ginger
  • 1/4 c
    water
  • 3 Tbsp
    vegetable oil
  • ·
    rice, cooked
  • 1 c
    boiling water
  • 3 large
    green bell peppers

How to Make Steak & Green Peppers

Step-by-Step

  1. Cut the steak into 1/2" strips.
  2. Combine the soy sauce, beef bouillon, mashed garlic and ginger.
  3. Pour this marinade over the steak strips and cover.
  4. Marinate, refrigerated, at least 2 hours (up to 12 hours).
  5. Drain the meat and discard the garlic.
  6. Reserve 1/2 cup of the marinade.
  7. Dry the meat strips on toweling.
  8. Brown the meat in the vegetable oil in a large skillet.
  9. Heat the reserved marinade in a separate pan.
  10. Add the reserved marinade and the boiling water to the meat and cover.
  11. Simmer about 45 minutes.
  12. Add the green bell pepper strips and the sliced water chestnuts.
  13. Simmer until the meat is tender.
  14. Mix the cornstarch in the second measure of water until smooth.
  15. Gradually stir this mixture into the meat mixture.
  16. Continue stirring until the gravy thickens.
  17. Serve over boiled white rice.
