Ingredients

  • - 1 cup onion, sliced
  • - 1/4 cup shortening
  • - 1 lb. round steak, cut into small pieces
  • - 1/4 cup flour
  • - 2 tsp. salt
  • - 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • - dash ginger
  • - dash allspice
  • - 2 1/2 cups boiling water
  • - 2 cups raw potatoes, diced
  • - 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • - dough for 1 pie crust

How To Make steak and onion pie

  • Step 1
    Cook onion slowly in shortening til yellow. Remove onion and set aside.
  • Step 2
    Roll meat in mixture of flour, seasonings and spices. Brown in hot shortening. Add boiling water; simmer, covered, til meat is tender, about 1 hour. Add potatoes and cook for 10 minutes longer.
  • Step 3
    Roll pie dough into circle, about 1/4 inch thick. Make several openings for steam to escape. Pour meat and potatoes into greased 8 inch casserole. Cover with reserved onion. Fit pastry over top and seal edges. Bake at 450 for 25 to 30 minutes. Serves 6
